Hongkong, 12th August, 1887.

Sir,

50, Queen's Road, Hongkong.

The Rendition Case.

As His Excellency the Viceroy of Canton requires from his Excellency the Governor an immediate explanation, there should be no delay in this matter.

It is difficult at present, under the circumstances, either for Colonel Li Loi or for ourselves to give such explanation and statement, that instructions may at once be sent to the British Consul at Kiung Chow directing him to give full information.

Fred. Stewart, Esq.,
Acting Colonial Secretary.
